Hi guys! I’m Caroline, and this is my fourth year in the journalism program and my third year writing for The Eagle’s Tale. I am so excited to get back to working for the paper and writing about the wonderful people here at Canyon High as a senior. When I’m not working on a story, you’ll find me in the Speech and Debate room. I compete in Cross Examination Debate, Original Oratory and sometimes Extemporaneous Speaking. In addition, I am also active in the Soaring Pride Band and a member of its Leadership Team. I’m a member of National Honor Society, National Quill and Scroll Honor Society and the National Speech and Debate Association. I am so proud to be a part of the n newspaper staff this year, and I can’t wait to spend my last year at CHS in the newsroom.

Sophomore Shaylin Schulte participates in basketball, track and golf in addition to standing as the sophomore class valedictorian. In her freshman year, Schulte was ranked second, but became first after the second semester of last year. "I wasn't expecting to become valedictorian," Schulte said. "It was a big surprise because I wasn't aiming for that. Now, I want to keep this standing for the rest of high school. Being number one is about doing your work and staying focused."

Junior Abigail Bell conducts during the halftime show at the Borger vs. Canyon game. Bell became the class of 2022 valedictorian following her 8th grade year. "School has always been an important aspect of my life, but it's not the only part," Bell said. "Taking care of yourself, having friends and being involved is just as important as having high grades. It can be difficult to balance all of this, but it is worth it."

The four valedictorians, freshman Kale Cameron, sophomore Shaylin Schulte, junior Abigail Bell and senior Danielle Burns, stand in their respective team uniform. Each valedictorian is involved with at least two other activities in addition to their academic pursuits. "Time management is important," Bell said. "Setting priorities and keeping them is the best way to stay ahead. It's about consistency and not trying to do too much. Know your limits."

Assistant principals Blake Hurst and Eric Gomez storm out of the Eagle’s Tunnel while members of the Soaring Pride Band Drumline perform a cadence. The duo have worked together at Canyon High for the last two years, earning themselves the title of 'The Boys.’ As Hurst moves to lead Sundown Lane Elementary as principal next year, The Boys reflect on their time together. “When I think back in the day of principals, I think of getting sent to the office and getting in trouble,” Hurst said. “We wanted to change the perspective of discipline. We deal with the positive. We make positive phone calls, and we want to be approachable. We care about kids, whether they’re in trouble or not.”
