Hey y’all, I’m Sean. I’m a senior here on campus and this will be my 4th year to be a part of the journalism department and 3rd year on Eagle’s Tale Staff.  I’m very passionate about newspaper and what is published as I see all the work that goes into each story from start to finish. A few things to know about me is I love to watch Grey's Anatomy and spend time with my family and friends. Arguably, I am one of the biggest Swifties here at Canyon High School but that is just my opinion. Well, that’s enough about me, I hope you enjoy our content.

Canon Rosser (12) and Jacob Quiroz (11) participated in the first Canyon High School hosted barbecue cookoff on Saturday Oct. 22. Canyon High has three barbecue teams, Canyon Smoke Show black, Canyon Smoke Show purple and Bull Rush. Five students came to me last year wanting to start a team,” barbecue coach Steven Thrasher siad. “They competed in their very first contest as a team last year, then they qualified for the state championship. Once other students saw the success more students wanted to join. This year, we had a meeting and 18 students showed interest in joining. So now we have three teams that are competing for Canyon High.

The renovations on the softball field began in October and were set to be done mid-January but were delayed because of snow. I found out about turf field from the athletic director, Toby Tucker, head softball coach, Styler Haddock said. I was getting ready to prepare it for the season and he let me know not to worry about it because turf was going in.

One act play auditions will take place on Thursday Dec. 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Students need to audition this Thursday if they are interested in being on the cast or the crew, Howell said. Theres a Google Classroom to join. They have an audition form in there and all the materials they need to know.

The Little Mermaid cast performs Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec.11 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the CHS auditorium. “Theres a lot of different people from different groups like basketball players and cheerleaders,” Junior Monica Hernandez said. “Youve got football, youve got baseball, youve got all these different groups and they all have different branches of friends. Everyone wants to come and support their friends.”

Many of the administration positions were filled this school year after Blake Hurst, Eric Gomez and Brandi Sanderson too different positions at other campuses. Our unofficial theme this year is new beginnings, rich traditions, Principal Jennifer Boren said. Its always good to try new things and get better and grow. However, you dont ever want to give up the rich things that make you who you are in the crowd.

Canyon Rush was a first year event that provided underclassmen with a chance to tour the school and explore different clubs and organizations, while upperclassmen got the chance to showcase their favorite parts of school. I think its super important for every kid to have a place at school, whether its athletics, fine arts, journalism, iConnect or a club, associate principal Jessica Ray said.

Interview Week, part of Canyon ISDs Competitive Edge Week, will continue through Thursday, April 22. Beginning in 2019, this year is the first year that Interview Week will be held virtually. The administration team worked with seniors to schedule an interview with a professional from the community. This is a week dedicated to giving students across CISD the opportunity to think about their future through the lens of the professional community, administrative assistant Jessica Ray said.

As a part of a lab in anatomy and physiology in sixth period, teacher Cortney Shaller demonstrates making the initial incision of a cows eye to junior Diego Sanchez Thursday, Jan. 21. Dissection allows the student to have a hands-on experience and allows them to physically touch and observe the different organs, Shaller said. This experience allows students to observe how form and function work hand in hand. This gives them a better understanding of their own bodies.
