Tips how to survive the spring semester slump:

  • Breathe: While grades and extracurriculars are important, your health and well being are value even more, so do not forget to practice self-care and take time for yourself.
  • Ask for help: As the semester progresses and begins to wrap up, you can get tired and not retain information as well as you used to. Do not be afraid to ask your teacher and peers for help. You can attend tutorials or even go to the math lab hosted in room 2101 during homeroom.
  • Take a break: If you find yourself swamped in homework and stuck reading the same page of your book for AP English IV without comprehending it, that is a sign you need to take a break and let your brain relax for a few minutes. You can step away to get a sip of water or grab a snack. You could even take a power nap, just make sure to set an alarm.
  • Find your favorite way to relieve stress: You might be getting burnt out. A great way to restore your energy and motivation is to find an activity to relieve your stress. You could watch a few TikToks, watch an episode of your favorite show, go to the gym, listen to music and many more options.
  • Do not procrastinate: One of the worst things you can do to yourself is put off a big project until the last minute. Cram studying the night before a big exam does not prepare you for the exam as good as studying several days in advance.
  • Set a routine: Create a routine and stick to it. It is not lame to go to bed at a reasonable time and wake up at a reasonable time. Eat your meals around the same time every day and get plenty of rest. A good routine can lead to good time management and better quality work.
  • Reward yourself: You worked hard for your grades and for your academic success. Take time to reward yourself. Rewards can look like finishing a big project and buying yourself a sweet treat or watching a TikTok after doing 30 minutes of homework. Whatever restores your motivation is progress.
  • Baby steps: Break bigger assignments into smaller pieces on your to do list. It can be overwhelming when you look at some assignments as a whole but when you break it down and work in smaller chunks over several days, it can be easier to finish and produce a better product. Any accomplishment, big or small, gets you closer to the finish line.
  • Keep your eye on the prize: We are all here for the same reason, to pass and get to graduation. While working through the stress and long nights, remember that you are 2 months away from the finish line, rather that be graduating or reaching summer break.

Hey y’all, I’m Sean. I’m a senior here on campus and this will be my 4th year to be a part of the journalism department and 3rd year on Eagle’s Tale Staff.  I’m very passionate about newspaper and what is published as I see all the work that goes into each story from start to finish. A few things to know about me is I love to watch Grey's Anatomy and spend time with my family and friends. Arguably, I am one of the biggest Swifties here at Canyon High School but that is just my opinion. Well, that’s enough about me, I hope you enjoy our content.
