Hello! I’m Ashlyn Harvell and I am the Associate Editor of both the Eagles Tale Newspaper and Soaring Wings Yearbook. This is my fourth year in Journalism and I am excited for the new challenges to come. Outside of the publications, I participate in band, soccer, UIL Journalism, and enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Grace Vareed (12) participates in, choir, NHS, AP Classes, Women in ECSM, Musical, and is in the top 10 of the senior class. Vareed also went through the clinical program her junior year and plans to pursue the medical field.

Sophomore Makalyn Lee donates blood at the Winter 2024 Blood Drive. “Donated blood assists in a lot of medical procedures like surgery or after traumatic accidents,” Key Club co-sponsor Lance Culbert said. “One of the things that I did not realize until recently is that blood and platelets are given to a lot of cancer patients that are undergoing chemotherapy because their blood counts go down because of the chemotherapy.”

Freshman McKenzi Sechrist brings a pink Taylor Swift flag for the Barbie dress up day. Sechrist said at Canyon Junior High they are not allowed to wear flags, so this was her first opportunity to be able to do it. “It's Hoco week and you wanna support your school, and be a part of a community where we get to have that,” Sechrist said. “Some schools don't do that, they just have the Homecoming game and that's it. Being able to dress up and have fun with the people in my class is nice.

The Key Club will host the first blood drive of the year on Aug. 30. The Key Club hosts four blood drives annually through Coffee Memorial Blood Center to supply blood to those in need.

Under a new coach, this year's varsity boys soccer team has a record of 3-11, having more wins this year than the past two years combined. All in their first year playing for Canyon High, freshman Christian Hukill and juniors Joah Carver and River Johnson share their experience with the soccer team.

Senior Kyla Cobb goes for a layup at a game against the Lady Raiders in November. The team won the game 58-31 and now has an overall season record of 25-1 at a .96% win rate. Currently in playoffs, the team will play against Levelland Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. Cobb said she would describe her season with the word 'determined.' "Our goal is to win State," Cobb said. "Our saying for this year is 'unfinished business,' and every single day we are pushing each other to get better."
