Canyon Rush was a first year event that provided underclassmen with a chance to tour the school and explore different clubs and organizations, while upperclassmen got the chance to showcase their favorite parts of school. “I think it’s super important for every kid to have a place at school, whether it’s athletics, fine arts, journalism, iConnect or a club,” associate principal Jessica Ray said.

Students and parents participated in Canyon Rush Tuesday, Aug. 17. The event gave underclassmen the opportunity to get their schedule, tour the school, get information about clubs and organizations and pay their class dues. For those who were not able to attend the event, the Eagles Tale will be posting club information in September, and any payments can be made online at MyPaymentsPlus.

“In the past, we used to have registration pretty early in the year, and we would allow clubs and organizations to have booths at registration,” associate principal Jessica Ray said. “Last year, our clubs and organizations kind of suffered because there wasn’t a time for kids to see all of our clubs and organizations and be able to meet people. We really wanted to bring that back.”

Ray said she thinks the event was a success and hopes Canyon Rush will be an event that continues in the future.

“I think it’s super important for every kid to have a place at school, whether it’s athletics, fine arts, journalism, iConnect, or a club,” Ray said. “I think it [Canyon Rush] gave a lot of freshmen a sigh of relief. They could go in with their families, walk around and figure things out so it wasn’t so stressful the first day of school.”
