Duck, dodge and dominate at Fri. 13 staff versus student dodgeball tournament that will raise money for the CISD Education Foundation. The day will run on assembly bell schedule and the tournament will be held at 10 a.m. during homeroom.
Spectating will cost $2, and enrolling will be $30. There will be two teams from each grade, with each team consisting of three boys and three girls with two alternates. The teams will face off against a singular team of teachers consisting of the same amount. So far three student teams are enrolled, but the teacher team has yet to be selected.
“We have not done this fundraiser specifically for the Education Foundation before,” Education Foundation Rep. Jenni Young said. “We have done dodgeball tournaments in the past, but it has been awhile, and we are hoping for a great turnout. The Education Foundation is a great cause to raise money, and we are excited for whatever we can contribute.”
The money donated by players and spectators from the tournament will go towards grants to support students and teachers in need. These grants will provide funding for things such as special projects, equipment and supplemental curriculum.
“Not only will the fundraiser impact our school, but it has the potential to impact other schools in our community as well,” Young said. “Teachers and students on our campus apply for the grants, and several have received them; it can help increase academic engagement with what the teachers request, as well as better equipment where needed.”
