Senior Dakota Puga hands off the ball at the Caprock game Oct. 29 in Amarillo.

The varsity football team will meet the Plainview Bulldogs Nov. 4  at Dick Bivens Stadium at 7:30. The team lost to the Caprock Longhorns Oct. 28.

The Eagles played well throughout the game and began with the first touchdown during the first quarter. Longhorns did not score any points until the second quarter. Eagles left the field in the lead with the score at 7-3. Each team scored once during the third quarter, and Eagles remained in the lead until the fourth quarter when the Longhorns scored two touchdowns. Eagles scored once in the fourth, which gave Caprock the win. Senior Dayne Douglass said he doesn’t think the loss will hurt the team.

I think this week everyone is going to see who we really are. We will come with a lot more energy and determination and do whatever it takes to win.

“We know we lost because of big mistakes we made during the game, and we’re going to fix them to propel us into the next game,” Douglass said. “During the game, I felt like we as a unit were off. It does not change how we prepare, but I believe the game was an eye-opener for the team, showing us we have to win if we want in the play-offs.”

This loss brings the Eagles to an overall win-loss of 7-2. Senior Gunnar Palacios said it will make the team play extra hard this Friday.

“We lost a game we shouldn’t have, and we hate to lose,” Palacios said. “After the game I felt embarrassed and very upset, but it is also good for us to know that feeling and remember what it feels like when we go out and practice to make sure that doesn’t happen again. I think this week everyone is going to see who we really are. We will come with a lot more energy and determination and do whatever it takes to win.”
