Ten students advance to area choir auditions

Ten students placed in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) pre-area choir auditions and will advance to area auditions in January.

Choir students who made the region choir auditioned at Randall High School Dec. 4. The top five chairs from each voice part at the auditions will advance to the area auditions for a chance to sing with the TMEA All-State Choir.

Choir director Brandon Farren said having a small 5A school capture a quarter of the chairs is a great accomplishment.

“This is a testament to the incredible work and talent of the students at Canyon High School,” Farren said. “I am incredibly proud of these students and the way they have represented both themselves and our fine choral program here.”

Students have been working on this music since they received it in June. Senior Keegan Fenton said the music for this audition was a great deal more difficult to learn and that she is proud of her fellow choir members.

“The choir program here is one big family,” Fenton said. “We love and care for each other so much, and that is a huge blessing to have in high school.”

Senior Abby Franks said students spend every spare second in the choir room working together on the music.

“I am so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful program with people who push me to be the best I can be,” Franks said.
