Senior Aaron Hughes waits in the wings for his next scene during a “Cinderella” rehearsal.

From court to stage, senior Aaron Hughes has learned the value of perfect harmony. From hitting notes to shooting baskets, from gold and white costumes to purple and white jerseys, Hughes performs both on the court and stage.

Hughes will play Prince Charming in the high school musical “Cinderella.” He is a part of the varsity choir, show choir and the varsity basketball team. Hughes said he enjoys both activities.

“Basketball and singing were originally instilled in me by my parents,” Hughes said. “Both of my parents sing and my mom is a former college basketball player, so I learned to love both things at an early age.”

In seventh grade, Hughes began playing basketball in school.

“My seventh grade year was the first year Crenshaw took the head coaching job at the high school,” Hughes said. “It was perfect that my grade entered into the program the exact year we got a new coach. Being part of the same program my whole junior high and high school career has made the experience nice, smooth and special.”

Hughes also said the Canyon choir is an excellent program.

It’s going to be a great show.

“Anyone who knows the director, Brandon Farren, knows that he teaches and encourages excellence,” Hughes said. “He also encourages really feeling and understanding the music. When we sing in concerts it makes all the work worth it because we accomplish something great and spectacular as a family in the choir.”

Hughes said the musical has been a long but exciting experience.

“Learning songs and memorizing lines have been the main focus for the past month and a half,” Hughes said. “It has been fun going through this portion of the musical process.”

Hughes said the musical is based off a well-known version of “Cinderella.”

“Almost everyone knows the story of Cinderella in one form or another,” Hughes said. “This musical has a few nice touches to the well-known version. It’s going to be a great show.”
