The varsity volleyball team will square off against Lamesa Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. in Lamesa for a district match after their win against Lubbock Estacado.

The Lady Eagles faced Estacado Sept. 28 and won three quick sets 25-7, 25-10 and 25-8.  Lamesa and Lubbock Estacado make up two of the four district opponents the team will face this season. Senior middle back McKenna Coppock said the team has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming district games.

“We’ve been really trying to channel our aggression towards the other side of the net and come together as a team,” Coppock said. “It’s the first of district, so it’s a good game to kick it off and for everyone to see what we have–to make a statement.”

“Winning that first district game gave us lots of confidence that we could finish this season off undefeated.

Junior setter Lauren Bell said the win in their first district game against Lubbock Estacado gave the team a positive outlook on the rest of the year.

“Winning that first district game gave us lots of confidence that we could finish this season off undefeated,” Bell said. “I believe we have a good chance of being district champs, just like last year.”

Coppock said the most important thing for this team to win is keeping their eyes on the prize no matter what the score may be.

“We have to stay focused and not get distracted,” Coppock said. “We don’t think they will score much, but we have to stay focused and get in and get out.”

Bell said the team has the same goal in mind during district as they did when playing in the preseason–making it to state.

“I don’t think anything new will change,” Bell said. “We’ve all had the same goal from the start, and we continue to work together to achieve it.”
