Following a loss to the Dumas Demons on Oct. 18, the varsity volleyball team will face the Caprock Longhorns at home Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.

Having played 12 district games this season, the Lady Eagles have won five games.

To win everyone has to believe in the same goal and have no doubts, because as soon as we have doubts, we don’t play to our full potential.

“We started off kind of rough, but then we’ve gotten our groove towards the second half of district, and now we’re doing a lot better than we were,” senior Emma Hughes said. “We played well in some games, and we’ve been kind of inconsistent, but I think we’re getting more consistent and we’re doing well now.”

Senior Reagan Chandler said the team is better this year than her sophomore and junior years because of team chemistry.

“I feel like we work a lot better together than we have in the past,” Chandler said. “We don’t have a lot of conflict within our team, and we play better because we’re not worried about other stuff. We’re only worried about the game. Since the beginning of this year, we have said that we all get along and click better than we have in the past.”

In preparation for the season, the team has been watching film and limiting mistakes. Chandler said team success will depend on attitude as well as skill.

“I feel like we’ll go as far as we let ourselves go in district,” Chandler said. “To win everyone has to believe in the same goal and have no doubts, because as soon as we have doubts, we don’t play to our full potential. If everyone plays to the best of their ability, we can go as far as we want.”
