Junior Shelbi Braudt serves the ball during her first match against Randall while her partner, junior Sarah Gilliland, awaits the return.

The varsity tennis team will compete at Palo Duro High School Thursday, Sept. 8 for the second district match of the season.

The team played Tuesday, Aug. 30 against Randall with an 18-1 lose to begin district play. Junior Shelbi Braudt said that she thought the team performed well considering that Randall was one of their top competitors and the match-ups were good.

“It makes me feel better when I play better competition, because I know that I am getting better for sure,” Braudt said.  “I know it’s challenging me, pushing me, pushing my limits.”

Approaching the second district match of the season after her loss, senior Berkley DeLong said that she wanted to have the best year of her high school career, and that she was willing to work harder to win more matches.

I want this to be the most successful year we’ve had.

“I want us to go to regionals,” DeLong said. “I want this to be the most successful year we’ve had.”

Braudt also said she wants to make it to regionals this season and is striving to get first girl all-district in singles and first team all-district in doubles.

“I think we can make it to area or regionals,” Braudt said. “We just have to play hard when we play Amarillo High, and we have to dig in to beat them.”
