Varsity tennis team advances to area

Senior Brighton McMinn hits a backhand in his singles match against Caprock last Tuesday. The Eagles finished second in district.

The varsity tennis team advanced to area by placing second in district. The team will play in Amarillo Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 22-23. The team will face the Plainview Bulldogs first round at Amarillo National Tennis Center 9:00 a.m.

The team has been practicing every day after school to prepare for area since district ended. The team needs to win either first or second place to advance to regionals. Sophomore Abi Dillehay said that the team will perform well.

“We are going to give it our all,” Dillehay said. “We have a really good chance of making it to regionals.”

Dillehay also said the team has been preparing by practicing hard and scrimmaging other teams.

“We have been focusing throughout every practice and giving it our all,” Dillehay said.

Junior Taitlyn McCright said the team worked hard throughout the season.

“We did our very best, and we had a great season,” McCright said. “We worked hard and fought for every match.”

Senior Brighton McMinn said the team is looking forward to the challenge the team will face at area.

“Last year we got upset by Monterey in the semifinals and missed out on a chance to go to regionals,” McMinn said. “We’re going to come out swinging and fighting tooth and nail to get there this year.”
