Olivia Rodrigo and Zach Bryan released albums within two weeks of each other. While being in different genres they both reached the top 10 in the Billboard Top 100.

Two notable artists both released Billboard No. 1 albums within the past few weeks. Zach Bryan released his self-titled country album, ‘Zach Bryan,’ on Aug. 25, 2023, and also released the ‘Boys Of Faith’ EP on Sept. 22, 2023. Olivia Rodrigo released her sophomore album ‘GUTS’ on Sep. 8.

If you listen to Tyler Childers, Noah Kahan, or Parker McCollum,  you’ll like Zach Bryan. The album starts with a profound poem that will pull at the listener’s heartstrings. Bryan collaborated with well-known artists, such as The Lumineers and Kacey Musgraves. According to Billboard, Some of the most listened-to songs are ‘I Remember Everything’ and ‘Hey Driver.  ‘Zach Bryan zooms from No. 16 to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart becoming the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to his new LP, Zach Bryan.  As the album progresses the songs range from upbeat songs like ‘Overtime ‘ to slower, more sorrowful songs like ‘Jakes Piano – Long Island.’ On the record, he collaborated with Noah Kahan and Bon Iver. The EP, which stands for extended play is a music record that contains more tracks than a single but fewer than an album. Contemporary EPs generally include four to five tracks, and has more of a folky vibe than his self-titled album. It’s only 16 minutes compared to his 55-minute album.

On the opposite side of the genre spectrum, we have a pop-punk album that has been highly anticipated. Olivia Rodrigo has always described her feelings messily and loudly, as we saw in her debut album.

If you listen to Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, or, Sabrina Carpenter, you might like Olivia Rodrigo. Two long years after she released her debut album, ‘SOUR,’. The album is filled with a pop-punk vibe, a complete 180-degree difference from Rodrigo’s previous album. Fans have been listening to ‘Vampire’ and ‘Bad Idea Right?’.  Her debut album had roughly 385 million streams in her first seven days; meanwhile, ‘GUTS’ reached 60 million on the first day. Most of her songs start off soft and end with a pop-punk grungy vibe, For example, ‘ Bad Idea Right?’ and ‘ Ballad of a Homeschool Girl.’ On the other hand ‘ Lacy’ and ‘ The Grudge’ are more on the mellow side but still have the hints of pop-punk. Rodrigo’s musical influences include Fiona Apple, Jack White, PJ Harvey, and Phoebe Bridgers.

These two Billboard Top 100 artists are in two different genres but both created amazing albums. Each has its own style but they are both loved by their fanbases.

Hi! I’m Hailey Howard! I am a senior and this is my first and final year on staff. Aside from being active in journalism, I'm a student council member. You can find me listening to music, reading, drinking lemonade, and hanging out with friends outside of school. I enjoy traveling and going on trips to the mountains. Next year, I plan on majoring in business and then going into a pre-law program, but until then I'm thrilled to see what this year brings!
