After winning the High Plains Marching Festival this past weekend, the band will compete in the UIL Region Marching Contest tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at Dick Bivins stadium.

The top bands at Saturday’s contest will advance to the area round.

“Our chances of making state this year are a lot better, and the band has put in a lot of good work,” junior drum major Kendall Tipton said.

After qualifying for finals in the High Plains Marching Festival and winning the outstanding color guard and percussion awards, the band was named Champion Band. The band has not previously won any of these awards.

“It was an incredible feeling when they called us,” color guard co-captain Shelby Casey said. “We’ve been working so hard since July and all of it finally paid off, but it’s only a stepping stone for us.”
