Canyon Technology Organization plays Santa at local hospital

CTO group after finished deliveries at Northwest Texas Children’s Hospital

The smell of fresh cut wood fills the entire shop.  The low sound of the CNC saw is only outmatched by the conversation of the group sanding the cut out pieces and snipping bright pink strings.  Other students are rushing around, cutting rings and grabbing more supplies.  The group frantically finishes the toys they are making for children in the hospital during the holidays.A team from Bill Troyer’s class have come together with Canyon Technology Organization (CTO) to make toy elephants for children who have to spend their Christmas break in the hospital.  The team delivered the presents Friday, Dec. 20 directly to children in the hospitals.

“There were seven of us that came,” senior Chance Turner said.  “There was Kolton Burkhalter, Phillip Gibbs, Andrew Walsh, Jade Roach, Grace Guthrie, Montana Wheeler and myself.  It took us about three weeks to finish making all the toys.”

The group drove to Northwest Texas Children’s Hospital and made deliveries straight to children’s rooms.  Afterwards the students drove to BSA and left many of the toys for the hospital staff to hand out later.

“My favorite part of the whole process was delivering the toys,” Turner said.  “It felt good because all the hard work paid off.”
