Junior Rowdy Vaughn runs the ball into the endzone for a touchdown against the Randall Raiders Oct. 7.

The varsity football team took down their Randall rivals Friday Oct. 7 with a final score of 34-15.  The Eagles will play the Palo Duro Dons Thurs. Oct. 13 at 7:30 at Dick Bivens Stadium for their second away game of the season.

Randall made the first touchdown of the game, but the Eagles found their rhythm and scored with four minutes left of the first quarter. Both teams had strong defenses during the almost scoreless second quarter, but Eagles were able to make their second touchdown of the game. With another Eagle touchdown and a Raider field goal, the second quarter ended 20-9. Coming back after halftime, neither team scored during the third quarter, but Eagles scored twice more and Randall once, ending the game 34-15.

“It’s always a big deal to us when we play Randall so when we come out on top it’s a great feeling,” senior Peyton Ruiz said. “I think we all knew that we were gonna be in control of the game both offensively and defensively, but we didn’t really expect anything. We knew they were going to give us a fight, but we gave it our all and ended up getting another big win”

The Eagles are now 5-1 and preparing to face the Dons.

“I was pretty excited to beat Randall,” senior Tristen Phemister said. “Everyone was pretty excited and the celebration in the locker room was great. We expect to do very well against Palo Duro. We expect to win.”
