Junior Alyx Cordell goes up to bat in early season tournament play. Cordell went 4 for 5 at the plate in the game against Randall.

The varsity softball team will play the Dumas Demons 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 10 at home to start the second half of district play.

The team defeated the Randall Raiders 9-8 on Tuesday, April 7,  putting the Eagles first in district with a record of 5-0.

Head coach Nicole Coffee said she was proud of how the girls produced at the plate against Randall.

“They did a great job of putting pressure on Randall early on in the game,” Coffee said. “We struggled at times defensively, but the girls did a great job of persevering through the adversity to come back and get a win in the top of the seventh.”

Junior Alyx Cordell said the team did a good job of coming out early and putting the ball in play in the first game they played against Dumas.

“Our coach always says to score first, so we went into our first at-bat with the mentality to score first,” Cordell said. “That mentality motivates us to put the ball in play and to compete at the highest level we know how to play at. We are also told that we were the show, so we went out there and played to the best of our abilities and gave it all that we had. We need to have that same mentality we had against Dumas and link it into the game this Friday.”
