Put on your pink shirt and go see Mean Girls (2024). This iconic movie came to theaters Jan. 12. Prominent stars we all know such as Jenna Fischer (Pam Beasley from The Office) and Christopher Brinley (Conrad Fischer from The Summer I Turned Pretty) star in Mean Girls (2024).
Mean Girls (2024) annoyed many people on the internet because of the lack of advertising that it is a musical. According to an article on Variety, the Paramount Studios President of global marketing and distribution, Marc Weinstock was interviewed. “We didn’t want to copy the lines exactly because we didn’t want people to think they were getting a version of the old movie,” Weinstock said. “We didn’t want to run out and say it’s a musical because people tend to treat musicals differently. This movie is a broad comedy with music.”
Now that that is settled, let’s get into my opinion of the new movie.
Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) and Ms. Heron (Jenna Fischer) are identical. The casting director was spot on in the physical aspect of casting Fischer and Rice as mother-daughter but wrong in the acting choice. Rice played Cady rather awkwardly. She was very boring and she could not sing very well. Then again Cady was homeschooled in Africa growing up. Therefore, she had no social life which led to poor social skills, so maybe the casting director chose right? Despite this, there was one scene between Cady and Ms. Heron after Cady lost her best friends, Janis Sarkisian and Damian Hubbard, Cady asked her mom to sit with her until she fell asleep which was a tear jerker. It was such a precious moment.
The plastics in the newest Mean Girls did a phenomenal job. Karen and Gretchen were adorable and I believe they did a phenomenal job. Regina was mind-blowing. These ladies fully surpassed the expectations of what the “girls in pink” are. It was very impressive and entertaining.
On social media, I noticed a lot of people react negagtively to Mean Girls (2024) saying how phrases have been removed from the new movie and the fashion is bad. Overall, this movie was cute. Was it like the original? No. Do you know why? Because 2024 is much different from 2004. Cultural and fashion choices have changed, and according to IMDB, this movie is solely a new twist from the writer (and icon) Tina Fey.
Keep an open mind when you see this movie. I hope you enjoy it. You can purchase tickets from Cinemark or Cinergy.
