According to a study done by Walden University, 30% of students in high school will be employed for a portion of the school year. Having a job offers many benefits but can be distracting and lead to lower grades in school. “It helps out with my family’s income, and it keeps me busy,” sophomore Lillian Ritchey said. “Sometimes I can use some money to spend on fun things, so it’s nice.

Students interesting in joining iConnect must apply by Friday, March 26. The application can be found in the appropriate grade level Google Classroom, or by visiting cisd.io/iconnectapp. By participating in the program, students are able to meet with Dell representatives, help teachers with troubleshooting and using devices, speak at school and district events, and help the testing and college and career events, iConnect coordinator Jessica Ray said.

According to the CDC, the U.S. currently has 13,447,627 total COVID-19 cases, and 267,302 deaths have been reported. According to the Amarillo Public Health Department, there are 7,592 active cases of the virus in the Potter and Randall counties, with 327 deaths. A count was taken in four anonymous classes at Canyon High, with 52.4% of students wearing the face covering properly and 45.8% of students wearing their mask incorrectly. With the coronavirus being more wide-spread than ever, this begs the question: Why are we becoming COVID-19 lazy?
