Baseball clinches Area, to face Amarillo High

The varsity baseball team claimed the Area title last weekend with a sweep over El Paso Burges, holding the Mustangs scoreless throughout the two game series.

“I think that we played one of our best games so far,” senior outfielder Thomas Garland said. “We had no errors in the two games that we played them and we stacked over 25 hits.”

Canyon will play Amarillo High Friday and Saturday in the regional quarterfinals at the WT baseball complex.

“Our mindset is that Amarillo High is going to be playing their best game against us no matter what,” Garland said. “We just have to play our game, and as long as our defense and pitching is the same as last series we should prevail.”

Starting pitchers for the Eagles will be senior Grant Glaze on Friday, sophomore Isaac Garland on Saturday and, if third game need be, junior Will Boren.
