Baseball rallies for six runs in 6th, wins 7-6 in first game of series vs Randall

The varsity baseball team played the Randall Raiders Tuesday, March 19 at home. The Raiders jumped out to an early 5-0 lead off of two runs in the first and third innings and one in the second, including a solo home run from Randall first baseman Brian Canida. Neither team scored again until the bottom of the sixth inning when Canyon scored two runs, then loaded the bases. Second baseman Braden Baker hit a grand slam in the next at-bat to earn the Eagles their first lead of the game. Randall scored to tie the game in the top of the 7th. With two outs and two on, catcher Jake Rogers hit the game-winning single to left field, scoring Isaac Garland to seal the comeback win.

The Eagles will play Randall again at Randall High School this Friday. In last week’s Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll, Canyon was ranked fourth in Class 4A behind Tomball, Calallen in Corpus Christi and Frenship.

I am Trevor Ferril, senior and associate editor for this year’s Eagle’s Tale staff. This will be my third and final year on staff and my second as an editor. Right now, my interests include most of my classes, mafia (the game), videogames, music, UIL academics, Science Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. I don’t like any other NFC East team, the Angels, the Yankees, death metal, most rap, most FPS games and some of the things I read in English class ("Tale of Two Cities" I’m looking at you) I’m also involved in the school’s varsity choir, Leo Club and will be the senior class treasurer. If you need me, I’ll be around. And don’t worry too much about tomorrow because today has its own worries.
