Canyon completes district, to face Monterey in bi-district playoff

The Canyon Eagles completed their district season last night with a win over Dumas, 52-40. That win landed Canyon in second place in district this year.

Leading Dumas 11-7 at the end of the first half, the Eagles held the lead 20-13 the end the first half. Canyon continued to hold the lead 39-33 at the end of the third quarter and closed out the win. Junior Jacob Relyea led the team with 28-points for the night.

“I’m glad we won,” Relyea said. “It’s always hard to play in Dumas’s gym. We’ll have to play well in playoffs though, we didn’t rebound well or play very good defense last night.”

Canyon will play Monterey for the bi-district championship next Tuesday at Littlefield High School at 6 p.m.

“We beat Monterey in a scrimmage, but they have height and we haven’t seen them play since before the season started,” Relyea said. “It’s in a gym I haven’t even seen, but it will be a very energetic game.”
