Eagle basketball begins season with rocky start

The varsity boys’ basketball team started their season last night against the Trinity Christian Lions. With an overall shooting percentage of 16 percent, Canyon lost to the Lions by a final score of 23-36.

The Eagles were only down by one point at halftime, 16-17. By the end of the third, Canyon trailed Trinity Christian 20-26. The Lions made a final stretch in the fourth quarter to only allow three points by the Canyon Eagle offense.

“We’ve been focusing on defense in practice a lot and last night it showed because our defense played well,” senior shooting guard Landon Bressler said. “Our shooting definitely is what needs improvement, but that will come with time so we are not stressed about it.”

Canyon will play Bushland Tuesday, Nov. 27, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Falcon gym.

“Since we have two weeks without a game before Bushland, I’m sure we will be doing a lot more offense and shooting so that we don’t have another six for 48 game,” Bressler said. “Bushland we won’t have the first game nerves that we had against Trinity, so our game should improve.”
