The boys soccer team won the season opener 2-0 against former Canyon soccer players Jan. 3.
Senior Colt Welch led Canyon’s offense scoring on a 35 yard kick into the upper right side of the goal, 1-0 Canyon.
Senior Aaron Rowe managed to get the ball to Welch once again. Welch then outmaneuvered two defenders and scored by sending the ball over the goalie’s head, 2-0 Canyon.
“Our defense was solid with all four defenders working well together,” Welch said.
The team stayed up ahead the entire game with goalie Clint Johnson, senior, blocking two attempts by the alumni team.
The ending score remained 2-0, bringing a good start to the season.
The next boys soccer game will be Jan. 8 at noon in Kimbrough Stadium versus Lubbock Monterey.
