Baseball advances to Area series

The baseball team soared past Big Spring in the bi-district round with a sweep of the best-of-three series.

Winning 27-3, and 21-10 the team advanced to the area round.

The team began the second game of the series with 11 unanswered runs in the first inning.

Leading 11-0 after four innings, the team was three outs away from forcing a run rule but Big Spring stayed in the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The steers then scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the game to13-10.

But the Eagles answered with eight runs in the seventh inning to send Big Spring home.

The team had a total of 18 hits.

Seniors Kendall Neill and Dillon Riley had five runs.

Senior Carson Rogers had four hits and three doubles.

The team is 27-3.

The boys will play San Elizario Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at noon in a best-of-three series for the area championship.

Game three will be held 30 minutes following game 2, if necessary.

The games will be held on the Ernie Johnson Field in Midland.
