Senior Kaleigh Rodarte-Suto sings “In Short” at last year’s Desserts on Broadway concert.

Choir students will perform the annual Desserts on Broadway concert Saturday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. in the commons. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m.

Admission and homemade desserts are free to attendees. The combined Bella Voce and Chorale choirs, Chamber choir and Ovation will each perform. The remaining performances will be solo, duets and group acts prepared completely by the students. Sophomore Joshua Moreno will perform “Friends on the Other Side” from “The Princess and the Frog.”

“It’s a pretty interesting song,” Moreno said. “Personally it goes all around my range. I’m kind of nervous. I really haven’t done a solo performance before, but I’m excited, too, because it always seems like a lot of fun. I decided to go out on a limb and see how it goes.

Head director Brandon Farren said Desserts on Broadway is much more laid-back than other traditional concerts.

“It’s always a fun concert,” Farren said. “We encourage homemade desserts, so you get a little taste of everybody’s home. This is one the community really likes because it’s accessible. The music is always different every year because the kids pick the music but the format is the same. There’s no foreign languages. There’s no composers from the 1600s. It’s all modern stuff a lot of people will recognize and even some new stuff people haven’t heard.”
