Seniors and interested family members and friends can attend the baccalaureate church service 5 p.m. Sunday at the west Hillside Christian Church campus in Amarillo. Seniors should arrive at 4:30 p.m. in their graduation gown, but not their cap.

“Baccalaureate is a way to reach out to the kids who are going to become independent,” junior class president Ayse Allison said. “It’s a way to get the point across that they have a place to go. Anywhere they go, they will have a place to worship and a family that’s always going to be there because you’ll be there for the same purpose. It’s a time to worship, pray over each other and hope the best for each other.”

The service will include a student-led praise team and various speakers, including KAMR 4 news anchor Andy Justus. Allison said her advice to attending seniors is to take everything to heart.

“This is one of the last times you’re going to be with your entire class,” Allison said. “They have speakers and they have teachers they like to recognize, and those teachers have some really good things to say. Just soak in everything.”
