Seconds. Only seconds remain in the first overtime. The score is tied and the ball is in her hands. The crowd is screaming and counting down the seconds until the buzzer sounds. She sets up her shot and shoots the ball just as the sound of the buzzer fills the stadium.

During the first game at the regional semi-finals in Snyder, junior Caitlyn Cunyus shot the winning two points against the Wichita Falls Riders in overtime.

“I didn’t feel any pressure, but the play was not set up for me to shoot,” Cunyus said. “Everybody was screaming for me to shoot, so I had to get the ball out of my hands.”

The next day, the girls’ basketball team won against Fort Worth Trimble Tech, advancing the team to state.

“It was exciting, but it is always nerve wrecking,” Cunyus said. “It’s a very great experience. We went last year, and we’re excited to return.”

Cunyus said that the team is hopeful to do well at state.

“It’s going to be tough, and we have to prepare well,” Cunyus said.
