Jammed door causes junior in jammies to miss school

SLAM! The door shut with a sound of finality. However, junior Cheyenne Hubbard had closed her door many times and didn’t think anything of it. She reached out, turned the doorknob….and felt resistance. Locked out, with her clothes and backpack in her room, she knew that it was going to be a very interesting day.

Cheyenne spent most of the morning of  Oct. 25 attempting to open her bedroom door. After she realized she’d forgotten her clothes for the day while on the way to the shower, she had walked to her room to find a locked door. Cheyenne and her mother, Chrissy Hubbard, hammered, pried and watched videos, trying to find a way to open the stubborn door.

“We tried going through the window,” Cheyenne said. “Our windows have screws in them so we can’t open them. I took out my butter knife, and I unscrewed the little screws. I could have sworn that the windows weren’t locked, but they were.”

Chrissy took Cheyenne’s sisters to school before returning to help Cheyenne pry the door open.

“We started looking up YouTube videos on how to open a door with a credit card,” Cheyenne said. “Those are lies. My mom finally just got a hammer and started hammering my doorknob off.”

After a lot of hammering and prying, the lock gave way. Cheyenne replaced the doorknob and repainted the door.

“We got a doorknob without a lock,” Cheyenne said. “I can’t lock myself out of my room and miss a day of school because of it.”

Cheyenne said that she didn’t see the point of coming to school before she could access her bedroom.

“I could have worn my sister’s clothes,” Cheyenne said. “My backpack was in there. What’s the point of coming to school if I don’t have anything? I’m just going to get detentions for not being prepared.”
