Choir will present a Christmas concert Sunday at 4 p.m. and the Soaring Pride band will present a winter concert Monday at 7 p.m.

Both concerts will be held in the auditorium, and admission will be free.

“We’re offering really a very varied concert with a little bit for everybody,” choir director Brandon Farren said. “We have anywhere from traditional Christmas carols that everybody knows to brand new music to Shakespeare. If you love music, you’ll love this concert.”

During the concert, audience members will be invited to sing Christmas carols with the choir.

“Mr. Farren always adds hymns and carols so that the audience can sing along with us, which is always fun and I know the audience always enjoys that,” assistant choir director Kelli Harter said. “There’s going to be lots of variety. We’re going to have fast, upbeat, joyful Christmas songs and we’re going to have slow, thoughtful Christmas songs.”

Harter said that many of the pieces feature sacred text and will be centered around the birth of Christ.

“There are very few things that you can bring your whole family to, and this one of them,” Farren said. “You won’t be disappointed. If you’ve never been to a concert and you’re curious, this will blow your mind.”

The Symphonic band will perform movie themes from “Home Alone” and “The Polar Express.”  The Honors band will perform a piece by local composer and band director Eric Rath, a piece by John Williams and will close with “Sleigh Ride,” a traditional closer for winter concerts.  

“It’s not going to be a very long concert,” assistant band director Luis Hernandez said. “Symphonic band is playing two pieces and the Honors band is playing three, so it should last about 25 to 30 minutes. I think audience members will enjoy what they’re hearing. We’re looking forward to having a really good performance from both bands.”
