Natalie Brown, Co-Editor-in-Chief
Hey there! My name is Natalie Brown and co-editor of the Eagle’s Tale. Mainly, I write editorial or news stories and compete in UIL with editorial writing. Not only do I write for the newspaper, I have been on the color guard for the past four years (which means I’m a senior, finally). Next year, I plan on attending Texas Tech University and working towards some sort of law degree with a minor in mass communication. I can’t wait to go to college, but at the same time I’ll miss writing for the paper and being on color guard. It has been a lot of responsibility, dedication, and time but it has all been worth it.
Hope McGee, Co-Editor-in-Chief
My name is Hope McGee and I’m co-editor in chief of the Eagles Tale. I mostly write feature stories and I help with the sports section. I am a senior this year and after I graduate I plan on majoring in ASL to become a counselor for the deaf with a minor in mass communications. Working and school pretty much consume my life but I love hanging out with my friends and playing games. I enjoy writing freestyle poetry and running or playing soccer. I am not shy by any means. I am almost always really loud and saying really off the wall things. I love music. I don’t think I could live without it. I am always hyper and very easily entertained. This years’ papers are going to be awesome due to an amazing staff. Check them out.
Chandler Shaw, Online Editor
Hi! My name is Chandler Shaw, and I am the editor of eaglestaleonline.com. This is my second year on staff, and I’m really excited to see where this paper can go in my career here at Canyon High. I have competed in UIL Journalism on the state level in news writing both my freshman and sophomore years. Other than journalism, I am also a junior drum major for the Soaring Pride Band, I compete on the UIL Speech and Debate team, and I participate in the One-Act Play. I love writing, reading, playing piano and hanging out with friends in my spare time. I’m completely crazy most of the time (unless I’m in a bad mood, in which case, WATCH OUT) and I’m pretty friendly, so if you see me in the halls, don’t be afraid to say hello!
Cheers!
Krista Faucette, Associate Editor
My name is Krista Faucette, and I’m an associate editor this year. It’s really exciting to finally be in my senior year of high school, and it’s made even better by the fact that I’m in newspaper. In my spare time I participate in UIL Literary Criticism and write my own novels. Reading is something I’m very passionate about, and discussing books is one of my favorite things to do. I’m also a huge fan of comic books and graphic novels, which I’m pretty sure classifies me as a grade A nerd. This is my second year on newspaper, and I couldn’t be more excited. I also enjoy music a lot. Rock, techno, punk, alternative, foreign, I listen to it all. I plan on going to the University of New Mexico and double majoring in English and Foreign Languages and Literature after I graduate. So if you ever feel like being a nerd with me or just sharing a good book you’ve read, go ahead and snag me in the hall. Let’s hope this year is our best!
Jason Ray, Sports Editor
Hey everyone. My name is Jason Ray, and I am the Sports Editor for The Eagle’s Tale. My life revolves around sports including cross country and track. I have raced at the UIL State Cross Country Meet and helped the Canyon High team place fourth overall. This past track season I tore my ACL and meniscus and am no longer running at all. So my senior year will consist of writing, listening to music and trying to get into the best college ever, A&M. My plan for the future is to go to A&M and major in marine architecture, participate in the CORPS program and eventually become a helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps.
Jayden Beatty, Staff Reporter
My name is Jayden Beatty. I am a sophomore and a staff reporter for The Eagle’s Tale. This is my first year as a member of the staff, and I’m very excited to be a part of it. I compete in editorial writing on the UIL academic team, and love it. I hope to become editor-in-chief by my senior year and plan to study a branch of mass communication in college. Outside of journalism, I am on the speech and debate team, a member of Key Club, and a member of CCA. I absolutely love my church youth group and all my friends. I’m usually pretty friendly. and I’m always open to making new friends. My favorite pastimes are movie nights, making life-time memories with my best friend Rachel Smith, and just being around the people I love.
Trevor Ferril, Staff Reporter
My name is Trevor Ferril, Madison’s younger brother, and I’ve joined The Eagle’s Tale staff for the first time. I write for the paper because there are many opinions out there, but news is the facts, and I intend to report the facts. I advanced to UIL Regionals last year in Headline Writing and Number Sense. I’m involved in choir, Leo Club, CCA, musical and Amarillo Chess Club. I love music (especially ‘80s rock), math, sports, video games (currently playing Mega Man), deep conversation, chess and occasionally, a good book/series aka The Hunger Games trilogy. I don’t like rap (it’s not music), most modern rock (which is mostly screaming to bad music), Texas A&M (sorry, Mrs. Smith), MTV (it’s mostly not even music-related anymore) and shoot-em-up games. I’m currently trying to save up for Madden 11 and, like every other sophomore, I’m caught up in so much schoolwork, it’s not even funny. I’ll see you whenever, and I’m almost always up for a game (when I don’t have to work, of course).
Laura L. Smith, Adviser
I’m Laura Smith, adviser of the Canyon High media team. Although I sit in the driver’s seat, I don’t really drive this bus. If I did, we wouldn’t have an online paper because I was afraid the technology was over my head and the challenge was too much. But because I listen to my backseat drivers, also known as my students, we are beginning our second year of eaglestaleonline.com.
I have a small but wonderful staff of students filled with the spirit of adventure, dedicated colleagues and a supportive administration. We have a great time in room 1305, and the students who pass through these doors go on to accomplish great things.
We are still learning, still laughing, still growing. I am blessed to have such talented and delightful fellow travelers.
