The Kansas City Chiefs were unstoppable until they faced the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Chiefs were on a winning streak of 9-0 and the Bills were 8-2. The Chiefs seemed to have high hopes until they saw the Bills quarterback, Josh Allen.
The game started with the Bills kicking the ball to the Chiefs who returned it to about the 40-yard line. Then Quarterback Patrick Mahomes started to run onto the field.
Mahomes threw the ball right to safety Taylor Rapp, where he caught it for an interception early into the game. That same quarter, running back James Cook ran a 3-yard rush for a touchdown.
The Bills were ahead early in the game, but the Chiefs were able to respond with 2 touchdowns the next quarter. The score at halftime was 16-14 the Bills leading going into the third quarter.
The third quarter looked different than the first half, as neither team put points on the board. Each team had their drive end in a punt. The Chiefs’ second drive of the third looked promising, until defensive back Cam Lewis, made an exciting tackle on tight end Travis Kelce, that stopped him short of getting a first down.
The Bill’s third drive of the third quarter saw them have signs of life. Allen connected with wide receiver Khalil Shakir for a 22-yard catch-and-run, that placed the ball at the Chief’s 49-yard line.
The fourth quarter was a nail-biter as the Bills were still leading. Then when the Bills had possession of the ball, Allen threw a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Curtis Samuel expanding the Bills lead to 23-14. The Chiefs responded with a 1-yard pass to tight end Noah Gray.
The score was now 23-21 and the Bills had possession of the ball with about 7 minutes left in the game. The Bills were still in the lead, but they wanted to seal the deal. The Chiefs put up a fight, but in the end, the Bills were able to get to the Chiefs 26-yard line.
It was fourth down and they needed 2 yards to get a first down, but Allen had other plans. Allen hiked the ball and ran the ball for a 26-yard touchdown. The final score was 30-21 making the Bills victorious over the Chiefs.
In an interview with Athlon Sports, Allen thanked his coach for allowing the offense to stay on the field. “Yeah, appreciate Coach McDermott for trusting the offense going out there. We had a man play, they dropped out to zone and they had something good for it. I was just trying to make a play and help our team win a football game.”
According to Bleacher Report, Mahomes and Allen met at midfield after the game, where Mahomes said, “We’ll do it again, baby.” With this loss, Kansas City fell to 9-1 on the season, while Buffalo improved to 9-2 and was in the mix for the No. 1 seed in the American Football Conference.
