After making it through preliminaries the Canyon Eagles UIL Cheer team advanced to the finals for the State Spirit competition in Dallas and placed 11th overall in the co-ed competition. Canyon was the only 4A team to make it to finals against 35 other schools.
In the State spirit competition there are two categories, Co-ed and All Girl. Canyon has competed in the co-ed division for the last few years, a division made up of mostly bigger schools.
“We still beat out a bunch of 5A and 6A teams,” sophomore Madyx Lee said. “Our routine this year was really good and I felt like the boys on our team were a lot stronger than they were last year.”
Throughout the off-season the cheer team practiced their cheer routine which they showcase at the State spirit competition. Much of the routine was designed by the senior cheerleaders.
“This year has held a little more pressure than the past years,” senior Emma House said. “The seniors have a lot of responsibility, we are the people who put things together for UIL and pep rallies.”
