Football team prepares for Randall raid
The varsity football team will face Randall Friday, Oct. 7 after a loss to the Amarillo Sandies Sept. 29.
Amarillo High started the first quarter quickly scoring three points. After the end of the second quarter, the Sandies were up 19-6. Both teams scored several times in the third quarter leaving the score 40-18. While Eagles scored again in the fourth quarter, they were unable to beat the Sandies, and the final score was 40-24. The team is now 4-1, but Coach Blake Bryant said he was proud of how hard the team played last Friday.
“I always have high expectations for our teams,” Bryant said. “I know this group likes each other, they like the game of football and they feel strongly about representing our school and community in a positive way, and that makes me feel good for sure.”
Senior Dayne Douglass said the team works hard to prepare for all games, but he is excited about the challenge of playing the Randall Raiders. The Eagles have not beaten Randall in two years, but Douglass said they watch film daily and go over formations to prepare.
“Randall will be a challenge of course because they are our rivals, but also because every team is a new challenge,” Douglass said. “We bond as a team and the bond we have is inseparable and won’t be broken. In the end I think we will get our revenge.”
