Eagles exorcise Demons off the field
The varsity football team will play Caprock at Dick Bivins Stadium at 7:30 Oct. 28. The Eagles defeated the Dumas Demons 27-7 at the last home game of the season Oct. 21.
The Eagles held strong in their defense throughout the game while also playing well offensively. Two Eagle touchdowns were scored with one field goal counting, and the points remained unanswered by the Demons. Eagles brought the first half to an end scoring another touchdown by junior Rowdy Vaughn leaving the score 20-0. Both teams played well defensively throughout the third quarter, but neither scored again until the fourth quarter. Junior Jaelin Ford made the final Eagle touchdown of the night with a 71-yard run. The Demons also scored towards the end of the fourth quarter which brought the game to an end with a score of 27-7.
“I’m proud of how our team played,” Ford said. “We do a lot of physical but mental preparing. We can’t go in there with the mindset that we are going to lose. We definitely have to be on a whole different level. we are going to continue playing well. I believe that in my heart.”
The win over Dumas brings the Eagles’ overall record to 7-1. Senior Bryson Barrett said any victory against an opponent feels great.
“A win is a win,” Barrett said. “Our mindset is very serious. We don’t talk much in the locker room before games because we like to visualize the game ahead to focus. If I do my job and the team does their job, we will do just fine. When we believe and trust each other, we play our best game.”
