Cross country boys score district championship
The boys varsity cross country team will run in the regional meet Monday, Oct. 26 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, Texas.
The team competed in the district meet Friday, Oct. 16, winning the meet with a team score of 20 and seven team members placing in the top 10. Senior Treet Allison placed first with junior Dylan Knight placing second.
“We did exactly what we wanted to,” Knight said. “We expected to come here to just race for the win and move on to regionals, so we can get on to championship season with a good start.”
Boys cross country coach Wes Kirton said this is only the beginning for the team.
“The big thing is for us to start narrowing our focus to our bigger races,” Kirton said. “We need to be calm, be steady and do our best.”
Allison said that steadiness is an important part of the team’s tactics.
“There are guys out here, running their last race, so they’re out here just killing themselves to stay with us,” Allison said. “We don’t try to stay with them, but we need to stay at our pace, stay steady, do our job and do everything right. That’s exactly what we have to do.”
Knight said that the team is ready for the regional meet.
“We’re ready to start working on that championship,” Knight said. “This is one of the first races where we have to stay really focused.”
