The boys golf team of Greg Garrison, Michael Kennedy, Christian Bazaldua, Andrew Brewer and Max Mitchell won second place at the district tournament

The boys golf team finished their season at the Regional Tournament at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, April 15 and 16.

The boys placed second at their district tournament.  Junior Andrew Brewer placed second individually and junior Max Mitchell placed fifth individually. The team placed eighth out of 16 teams at the regional tournament.  Junior Max Mitchell said they prepared for regionals by practicing every day and playing practice rounds before the tournament.

“We were planning on playing a practice round the day before, but the girls tournament ran late and we couldn’t get on the course,” Mitchell said.  “Even though we couldn’t get on, we still went to chipping green.”

The regional tournament took place at the Rawls Course in Lubbock.  Senior Christian Bazaldua said the competition at regionals was harder than what they are used to.

“The competition was strong, but I think we are just as good as the top teams,” Bazaldua said. “I struggled both days mentally, but I still had fun.”

Junior Andrew Brewer was one stroke away from the state tournament.  He won the play-off hole for a chance to go to the state tournament as the alternate individual. Mitchell said they are proud of Andrew for his performance at regionals and hopes they can go to state as a team next year.  Sophomore Greg Garrison said he felt he didn’t play to his potential.

“I definitely could have played better,” Garrison said. “I had fun at regionals even though the Rawls Course isn’t my favorite.”

Team members Max Mitchell, Andrew Brewer, Christian Bazaldua, Greg Garrison and Michael Kennedy had a two day total of 664 at the tournament.  The team placed eighth and did not get to go to state.  The team members said they hope to go to state next year.
