Cross country teams place in Oct. 11 meets, head to district Tuesday
All boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will compete at the district meet Oct. 21 at Thompson Park in Amarillo following a strong showing at their Oct. 11 meets. The varsity boys’ cross country team placed second with a total of 88 points in the Flyin Hawk Invitational at Birdville, Texas, and the varsity girls’ cross country team came in third with 49 points in the Lathrop Invitational.
Junior Treet Allison came in third place, followed by sophomore Dylan Knight in fifth place. For the girls, sophomore Angel Hayden placed third followed by Ayse Allison in eighth place.
“We came into this race expecting to face the reality of our abilities, but instead all we found was the strength we have compared to state ranked teams,” Treet Allison said. “After the race, our team felt so great that we wanted to turn around and join the next race.”
Girls’ cross country coach Ray Baca said he is very pleased with the results of the team.
“The girls have had an awesome attitude and work ethic,” Baca said. “I believe our girls will give a great effort. Our goal is to race our absolute best at the state meet in Round Rock Nov. 8.”
Treet Allison said that he has high hopes for the next meet.
“In the past, we have had strong competition at district,” Treet Allison said. “This year with the amount of time and effort we have put in, we expect to have a perfect score. We plan to bring the brooms and sweep the meet.”
