Students place at Clarendon Arts Festival
Six students out of the 17 that competed at the Clarendon Arts Festival last Friday won awards in their categories. The art pieces are displayed in the library.
The winners include seniors Bricia Granda, Christian Gil, Amanda Koontz, Dominic Castro, junior Shelby Willburn and sophomore Macayla McCandless. Koontz also won best in show.
“It was an art show that was open to the public but they invited the students to enter artwork this year which they have never done before,” art teacher Linda Podzemny said. “The judges did a really good job making it about the students.”
The festival only had first, second and third places in four categories. The judges took the students around asking them about their pieces,
“I was surprised that we almost did a clean sweep,” Podzemny said. “It’s going to be harder next year because a lot more schools are going to know about it.”
In April, art students will compete in the Visual Arts Scholastic Event in Bryan, Texas. Podzemny said she is excited to see what the students will create.
“We are gearing up for that now,” Podzemny said. “I hope we have some good pieces. I’ve been here ten years, and I’ve always had someone go to state.”
