CISD to run safety drills Friday
Students will participate in a district-wide “Safety Day” Friday, Aug. 28. Canyon High School will be on assembly bell schedule due to a pep rally.
Students will practice multiple drills during the day: a fire drill during first period, a lock-down during third period, a tight bell schedule between sixth and seventh periods, a severe weather drill during sixth period and an obstructed fire drill during seventh period.
“I expect the students to participate actively like it’s the real deal,” assistant principal Steven Singleton said. “If you don’t practice like it’s real, it’s harder to react. No matter how much you practice, it’s always tough. Our reaction time is really what we want to increase with safety day.”
Singleton said he wants students to be able to handle future situations well.
“When you practice enough, you know how to react and where to go,” Singleton said. “We are hoping our students will participate actively and take it seriously. We want the students to be knowledgeable and know what to do.”
