Student council collects jeans to help homeless youth
Student council will collect jeans through Feb. 10 for Teens for Jeans to benefit homeless youth in need of clothing.
One in three people affected by homelessness are under the age of 18. One of the most requested items by homeless youth is a pair of jeans. Teens for Jeans has collected 2.5 million pairs across the United States in the past several years.
“Teens for Jeans is sponsored by Aeropostale every year for dosomething.org,” student council president Matthew Snell said. “At the end of the drive, we take all the jeans back to Aeropostale so they can deliver them out to the homeless youth.”
Last year, student council raised over 400 pairs of jeans to donate to Teens for Jeans. Snell said this year they want to raise more.
“We are shaky on the donations right now,” Snell said. “But, we want to raise 500 pairs of jeans for the drive.”
Jeans can be brought to room 1208 in order to donate to the drive. Student council members can receive one point for every pair donated.
“It’s not about how much we give, but it’s the attitude in which we give,” Snell said.
