Twenty four students will advance to All-Region Choir auditions after competing in the 3A-5A All-District choir auditions Saturday, Sept. 28. All-Region Choir auditions will be held Nov. 2.

Students met early Saturday to bus to Tascosa High School, for auditions. Over 500 students competed for the top 20 to 25 chairs in each section.

“I felt good going in,” choir director Brandon Farren said. “They put their work in. They were ready.”

The All-State process consists of four separate auditions, district, region, pre-area, and area. If competitors make the top 12 at area they make the All-State Choir. Every audition after district increases in difficulty with the addition of sight reading and three new pieces for each audition.

“I feel confident going into the auditions this year, because it’s my third year to do the high school All-State process,” junior Aaron Hughes said.

Competitors received music for district auditions as early as the middle of June. Since then, students practiced by going to All-State camps, early morning sectionals, activity period practices,  at home practices, and mock auditions with Farren.

“The time I spent practicing was not necessarily a sacrifice,” senior Morgan Finke said. “I feel it really did prepare me for the competition.”

Farren said he pushes students to participate in the competition in order to become better musicians.

“He really does want the best from you because he knows you’re the best,” junior Madison Younger said.
