Papers began to fly as students from all around the Panhandle rushed to find any information about their topic. Canyon High watched the students work to catch up but couldn’t help them. After all, Canyon was running this tournament.
Canyon High and Randall High teamed up this weekend for the first annual swing Can-dall speech and debate tournament. Randall hosted the tournament on Friday, while Canyon hosted on Saturday. This was the Speech and Debate club’s main fundraiser for travel expenses to tournaments all around the state. The team raised around 3,500 dollars for travel.
“We represented Canyon High very well for the first time appearing at a Randall tournament,” Jayden Beatty, president of the Speech and Debate club, said. “We made a lot of money in our tournament which is going to help us a lot.”
Canyon also competed in a few of the competitions at the tournament. Seven students total from Canyon placed in competitions. Jayden Beatty received the highest placing from Canyon which was second in Congressional debate.
“I had some really good competition,” Beatty said. “I am really proud of myself for doing as well as I did. I think everyone did pretty well.”
