Buff’s breakfast great for the herd
A place for families and sure to become regular hangout, Buff’s has many promising aspects. With a restaurant boom in Canyon, it’s nice to see American comfort food in the mix.
Located at 2201 4th Street, Buff’s is open from 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday. Hours for breakfast varies but is usually served until around 10 or 10: 30 a.m. Lunch hours also vary but run approximately 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Buff’s atmosphere is very cozy and family-friendly, great for a morning cup of coffee or a family breakfast.
Buff’s namesake pays homage to West Texas A&M University and makes the university its focus in decor and aesthetic. The entrance is filled with pictures from the university’s past highlighting campus life all the way back to the early days of West Texas State. Jerseys hang from the wood panel walls adding more to the atmosphere. All of the memorabilia honors local heritage with pride in the history, culture and society of Canyon and West Texas A&M University.
While seating is limited, Buff’s makes do with the space available in the dining area, but large parties may wish to order their food to-go. Buff’s also offers a drive-thru during business hours.
The service is great at Buff’s, with friendly staff always ready to take orders at the front. Hot coffee is always refilled within a few minutes and is a sure sign of great service, considering a self-service pot is always ready at the front.
The first time I went to Buff’s for breakfast, I kept it simple with pancakes. Although it’s hard to mess up pancakes, there wasn’t a mistake in the perfect ratio of fluff to syrup. My table ordered an assortment of fantastic fresh omelettes. Of the multiple people in my party that day, all were very impressed and delighted with their food. The second time I ordered breakfast at Buff’s, I was equally if not more impressed with the food. The French toast was very appetizing, and I had no trouble finishing the great meal. The breakfast at Buff’s is reliably fresh and overall a fantastic pick for any morning with an appetite.
While the breakfast at Buff’s is special, the dinner at Buff’s has not quite met the expectation that breakfast creates. While the food is decent, it wasn’t really amazing. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, and while it was good, it was so messy that I eventually resorted to a fork to eat the sandwich. With the sandwich, I had some of the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken tenders were pretty impressive and just the right amount of flavor and texture. This almost made up for the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, but all together it was a pretty average and pricey experience.
Altogether I would recommend the breakfast at Buff’s without a doubt. A morning at Buff’s is sure to impress anyone. Although the dinner at Buff’s could be better, a meal there anytime is worth the try.
