“When you’re in discus it comes down to how much work and time you put into it,” sophomore Kelton Burgoon said. “The more time you put into the sport the better you will become. I have been in discus for a while now, and I am still learning more each day. When I practice, I have to think about all that is required for me to do well. When it comes to competing, I have to think about how much I’ve put into the sport and how much I have sacrificed to be able to compete at the high school level. One of the more important factors for me is making sure that my mind is in the right place, a proper mindset is key to being successful when it comes to discus. In my mind, I need to have a sycophantic mindset to achieve my goals. I have found out that you can achieve a goal in two different ways; you can slowly work up to the goal and achieve it, or you can do any possible thing to get closer to achieving the goal every day. I always try and put 100% effort into discus, because I know that everyone is counting on me to be as good as physically possible. One of the best feelings for me is when I work hard towards something and knowing that it will all pay off.”
