With the start of a new year, new stars take their spot in front of the mic for the 2023-2024 “Winging It” podcast, with multiple new topics to be discovered.
Tomorrow the “Winging It” podcast will be returning with new stories to share and two new hosts, seniors Ava Haddock and Natalie Finke. Both hosts said they are planning to share more news and events compared to last year.
“A big thing that we want to do is bring in real life events and school events,” Finke said. “Not only focusing on the pep rallies, football games and the things going on in our school but also the wider picture of stuff in the news.”
Like many others, Finke and Haddock did not know about the podcast. Now they are going to be the ones spreading the news across the school.
“I didn’t know about it at the beginning of the last year,” Finke said. “When I heard that we were going to do the podcast then I started listening.”
This year “Winging It” plans to put in more news related content, opposed to only interviews like the previous year. This will include events in our city as well as world wide news.
“I know a lot of people don’t know about it [the podcast],” Haddock said. “We are trying to get it out there and be like, ‘Oh, hey, this is what it’s about’ as well as bringing the outside news into it and not just school events.”
With tons of planning going on behind the scenes such as keeping up with the student body, paying attention to the news and finding the right people to interview, the podcast team said they will be busier than ever. They will be taking time out of their day to find a story and people worth covering.
“I think people know Ava and Natalie more on a personal level,” social media editor Chloe Birnbaum said. “With Kennedy and Abby, people just knew their names but didn’t really ever talk to them.
This year the podcast hosts plan to release a new episode every other week, if not every week, to give more of a professional podcast energy. Birnbaum said that last year was “on the fly” and never knew what was going to happen, or when the podcasts were going to post.
“Last year, it didn’t sound like a podcast because they were just interviewing a ton of people,” Birnbaum said. “Now I feel like we’re getting a true podcast not just interviews. It’s talking about what’s going on in the world; what’s going on in the school.”
With interviews, news, and more the “Winging It” team plans to have a new beginning with less of a rushed and overwhelming vibe, and more of a real, relaxed feel to it.
“It’s gonna be fun,” Haddock said. “We are going to try to make it really, really fun and enjoyable for everyone.”
