The class of 2017 will present a James Bond themed prom April 16.

Juniors and seniors may purchase tickets for the 2016 prom on MyPaymentsPlus March 1-16 and in the commons March 21-April 1. Prom will begin at 8 p.m. April 16 and run to midnight in the Grand Plaza at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Juniors and seniors at Canyon High School may purchase tickets for $40 each. Freshmen, sophomores and non-Canyon High students may attend if invited by a junior or senior, however students who do not attend Canyon High School must be younger than 21 and approved in advance by administration. The first 300 students to purchase a ticket will receive a free 2016 prom t-shirt. The theme of the 2016 prom is James Bond, the dance itself entitled “Prom Royale.”

“The Class of 2017 voted on this theme at the Back to School Bash in August,” junior class sponsor Cenee Precure said. “The students really wanted a classy, ballroom event.”

Along with a DJ and dance floor, the prom will feature a game area to fit the theme of Casino Royale as well as some other 007-themed surprises.

“There will be a casino area, but the main focus of the James Bond theme will be to create an elegant and classy event,” Precure said. “Who knows, a car from one of the Bond movies might end up in the Grand Plaza.”

The night will include themed food and drinks, a photo booth, dancing competitions and a chance to win prizes.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but I am hearing rumors of mashed potato martinis, tea bars and much more,” Precure said. “The juniors and seniors will have to come out and see what goodies will be available that evening. I know they will not be disappointed.”
