The Canyon Lady Eagles swept through the first round of district with an undefeated record.
Players to watch: junior Kambrie Graser along with seniors Sydney Winfrey and Jaylee Moss have been the top scorers for the Lady Eagles. Graser has stood out this season with her ability to throw up 3-pointers while making plays. When the Lady Eagles played the Randall Raiders, Graser took the lead with eight 3-pointers and 30 total points.
Girls team manager, Brinley Latham, said the Lady Eagles will need to focus on their attitude and physical mentality to continue to finish strong.
“We should finish first in the district,” Latham said. “We should see more challenges from difficult teams in the playoffs.”
The Lady Eagles will continue their district play against the Dumas Demonettes at home tonight before taking on the Borger Lady Bulldogs also at home on Friday.
The Canyon Eagles battle for district seeding. After a tough preseason the Eagles have a 4-5 district record.
Players to watch: juniors Jordan Webber and Clayton Wilcox and sophomore Brox Hacker. These Eagles have led the team in points in several different season match-ups.
Junior varsity boys manager, Samuel Potestas, said the team is performing pretty well considering they are are mostly first time varsity players,
“I think the rest of the season is definitely going to be a challenge.” Potestas said. “I think our team is good at having a good start.”
The Canyon Eagles will face Dumas Demons tonight in the Joe Lombard gymnasium. The Eagles will also proceed through district Fri. Jan 31 against the Borger Bulldogs.
