Football enters homecoming 4-0
The football team will play Borger for homecoming Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
The team will go into this week’s game with a 4-0 record after defeating Palo Duro, Randall, Lamesa and Caprock. The Borger Bulldogs are 1-3 in their 2018 season.
“Going into this game we can’t treat it like we are 4-0,” junior Brandon Driskell said. “We have to treat every game as if we are 0-0. Since it’s our homecoming, we want to play well.”
Driskell is a returning varsity wide receiver and back-up quarterback.
“Coming off of a 2-8 season, a lot of teams are doubting us,” Driskell said. “We have definitely come out this year with a chip on our shoulder, so that has made us excited to play.”
The Eagles will not play the week district 3-4A starts.
“We are blessed to have a bye week right before district, so that we can prepare,” Driskell said. “We are going to prepare for the next three games, but the golden prize is winning district.”
Junior Clay Artho positions at defense as an outside linebacker.
“We are working to go 5-0 right now,” Artho said. “We want to put on a good show for the homecoming game. We play Borger this week, but things are going to start getting tougher after that, because we have a lot of away games as well.”
Artho said he thinks it will be a bigger challenge for the team to travel away so much in the upcoming weeks.
“We want to go into district strong and come out on top,” Artho said. “We are definitely looking out for Pampa. They are going to be big competition in district. They are always good.”
The Eagles were recently named 11th in the conference 4A division 1 statewide.
“Our coaches don’t talk about the rankings a whole lot, because they don’t want us getting big headed or anything like that,” Artho said. “They want us to keep it even keel.”
